Cameron Nickerson
Cameron Nickerson, from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, has been steeped in country music since childhood, inspired by his father and grandfather’s bluegrass roots. While he first gravitated toward rock and metal, his love for storytelling brought him back to country. In 2011, his high school band, The Rockabillys, won CBC’s Battle of the Bands, released an EP and full-length record, and opened for The Sheepdogs.
His 2018 solo debut, Detours, earned nominations for Country Album of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards and the Nova Scotia Music Awards. He later opened for Tanya Tucker in Yarmouth. In 2023, Nickerson’s critically acclaimed sophomore album, Submission, brought another Nova Scotia Music Award nomination and performances at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival and Larlee Creek Hullabaloo.
Looking ahead to 2025, Nickerson will release three singles from his upcoming bluegrass LP, The Wagon, a long-awaited project that further showcases his versatility. With heartfelt lyrics and a voice that bridges generations, he continues to make his mark on Canadian folk and country music.
When he’s not on stage, Nickerson stays active, earning his Personal Training Certification in 2023 and taking cold plunges across Canada — including in a deep freezer-turned-plunge tub on his own porch.
