Dave Martone is a world-class guitarist, recording engineer, producer, and educator — the coolest Music Technology & Contemporary Guitar professor you can imagine at Douglas College.

A virtuosic balancing act, he runs Vancouver’s “Brainworks” production facility. Between his singing wife and two kids, he was designing the Guitareo video shoot for his new improvisation course when I reached out. He’s also working on the new Bif Naked album, adding to previous releases with artists like Nickelback and Joe Satriani. He’s published two Alfred books — Shredding the Blues and Serious Shred — tours with seven albums of his own, and tears it up on shows with 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, and the Nuevo Flamenco band Kadabra. Yes, that’s Dave on the covers of Guitar Player, Guitar World, and Guitar One.

Dave met Italian singer Carmelina at an old-school CD release party. She cites Madonna as an idol and had no idea she’d marry the guy who immediately chased her down — only for her to leave for Italy for a year! Her email was so full his messages bounced back, but when she returned to Vancouver, Dave took her to a Van Halen concert…and the rest is history. You’ll be a super fan tonight!
