Sharing from ShowHub – Your Guide (Updated)
UPDATED: October 28, 2025 regarding Instagram Image and Facebook sharing
At ShowHub, our goal is to make things as simple as possible, saving people time.
The biggest time-suck with promoting on social media, in our opinion, is the requirement to use graphics (or video) to communicate anything at all on Instagram (don’t get us started on TikTok – we’re not going there yet). You can’t just say, “I have a gig on this date, at this time, at this venue.” You need to design, create, and upload a poster that will also somehow catch the attention of people who are looking for shows.
The problem is, everyone’s trying so hard to be original that IG feeds are just a wall of clutter where nothing stands out.
To help with these issues, we’ve designed and coded sharing images that are created on-demand for every show. No, not AI posters – these were human-designed, and the generation code was human-developed (with a bit of AI assist for some tricky parts).
By creating images that are both individualized and branded, we’ve ensured that these posters stand out. When you see the ShowHub colours in your feed, you immediately know it’s a live music show. The details are front and centre, easy to spot, and the artist image adds individual identity to the artwork.
That said, not everyone gets what’s available at first glance – so here are the details!
Facebook / X / Bluesky
These images are landscape banners, best suited for these platforms. They include the artist profile photo on the gradient background. Below the banner is the date, time, and venue of the show. The banners are clickable through to the event.
To share, you can:
- Click the button for the platform you want to share to, then follow the posting instructions there
- Click the copy link button and paste it into a new post on your platform of choice
Facebook:
On desktop, this will now open in a new browser interface, which will allow you to share to either a personal page OR a business page. (yay)
iOS Users: Because Apple changed how things work, we had to re-tool this.
Clicking the FB button will open your device sharing menu, where you can select Facebook and share. The only issue here is there’s no preview, but it does show up correctly once posted. Again, you can now share to both personal and business pages.
This works on both the normal browser and web app (from the home screen icon) versions.
In case of failure: While we’ve spent a lot of time and effort to make this seamless, Facebook is incredibly glitchy, and sometimes it just won’t work. If that happens, just click the link icon to copy the url, and paste it into a new Facebook post. The display will be exactly the same.
Clicking the email button opens your email client with a pre-filled subject line and a link to the show. Alternatively, use the copy link button and paste it into an email manually.
Calendars
There are two calendar buttons for each show: one for iCal (Apple) and one for Google Calendar (Google/Android). Clicking these adds the event to your personal calendar with all details plus a link back to the ShowHub show page.
This way, you can set reminders as you prefer and only be notified about the events that interest you.
Each button generates an image at the dimensions requested.
Story (9:16)
- Best for story posts on all platforms
- Can be used across Meta platforms
- Not suited for wall posts (cropping/stretching issues)
Post (4:5)
- Best for Instagram wall posts
- On desktop: after uploading, set the aspect to 4:5 to prevent cropping
- On mobile: 4:5 should be applied automatically
Square (1:1)
- Best for cross-posting across multiple platforms if not making a story or reel
- Note: On Facebook, a 4:5 image gets padded, which can look odd, especially with partner-branded designs
How it works
- Computer (4:5) or (1:1): The file will download to your computer. Create a new post on Instagram, upload, set to 4:5 or 1:1, add caption and tags, then share.
- Stories: You can only create a story on mobile, or through the Meta business suite, so for computer users, the 4:5 image will be the most useful.
- Mobile – the image will open in a popup. Long-press to save to your photo library*, then post from there as usual. Don’t hit share here, or it will try to share the image link in a private message. Unfortunately that’s out of our control.
* These examples are Apple-specific. Other methods exist, but in our testing they often work inconsistently. Android steps may differ — if you know a reliable method, we’d love to add it here.
Partners
You may notice that some of our share images have a different design. These are for shows connected with our partners, along with a few new series we’ve chosen to support. Partner posters include their logos and brand colours alongside ShowHub’s, so they stand out while keeping a consistent look.
Upcoming shows in our partners’ series are also featured in our Instagram highlights. Unlike most highlights, these are always kept up to date: once a show has finished, its slide is removed (usually within a couple of days) and the highlight is refreshed to promote the next event in the series.
If you’re interested in partnering with us, feel free to get in touch! We offer both reciprocal and paid options, providing different levels of visibility beyond our standard listings.
Wrapping Up
Sharing shows is one of the simplest ways you can support artists and venues. With ShowHub’s built-in tools, it only takes a click — whether you’re posting to social media, adding to your calendar, or sending an event link to a friend.
We’ve also built sharing tools for artists: every artist profile includes shareable images (just a single Instagram-ready size – 4:5 here). These are designed to make it just as easy for performers to get the word out about their upcoming shows, while keeping a consistent look across feeds.
Try it out: Pick any upcoming show on ShowHub and test the share buttons yourself — it’s the quickest way to see how easy it is to spread the word. The more people know what’s happening, the stronger our live music community becomes.
