ShowHub Artist Directory Update

Aug 9, 2025

When we launched ShowHub in January, our Artist Directory brought together every performer in one place — solo acts, duos, and bands alike. As our listings grew, it became clear that grouping everyone together made it harder for audiences, venues, and event planners to quickly find the type of act they were looking for.

To make things easier, we’ve now split the directory into two sections:

Solo & Duo Musicians

Features performers who take the stage alone or as a pair — from solo instrumentalists and singer-songwriters to two-person acts in any genre.

Bands

Highlights groups of three or more musicians, from trios and quartets to full electric ensembles.

Some artists appear in both sections — many perform solo or as part of a duo in addition to playing with a full band.

Nothing about the artist bios has changed — all profiles remain exactly as before. The only change is to the directory view, making it easier to browse by performance type while keeping all the same information available.

This split is part of our ongoing effort to keep ShowHub easy to navigate, accessible, and accurate. With more than [insert current number] local artists already listed, this update makes discovering live music in Metro Vancouver simpler for everyone.

Cleanup

As part of this update, we’ve also done some housekeeping. Artists who haven’t performed in several months, including some touring acts, have been removed for now. We’ll add them back as soon as they return to the Metro Vancouver live music scene. This keeps the directory focused on active performers, so audiences and bookers can trust that what they see is current.

Genres

We’ve had a few people ask why the Artist Directory isn’t organized by genre. While we agree it would be a great feature, we simply don’t have enough reliable information to make it work right now.

Many artists don’t fit neatly into a single genre — but that’s only part of the challenge. The bigger issue is that we don’t know most of the performers personally, and about half of them have no more information online than what’s on an Instagram account. Often, those profiles don’t even say they’re a musician, let alone list the styles they perform.

In many cases, the only reason we know an artist fits within ShowHub’s genre scope is because of where they’ve performed. Beyond that, we often can’t confirm their musical style without direct input from the artist. So far, only about one-third of artists have responded to our messages, which means we don’t have enough verified information to build accurate genre categories.

We hope to get there in the future — once more artists know we’re legitimate and start responding with their details. For now, our focus is on keeping up with shows and profiles, and making sure the information we do publish is accurate, accessible, and up-to-date.

For Artists

If you’re already listed on ShowHub, please get in touch with any updated photos or bios. If you’re not yet featured, or if you’d prefer not to be included, let us know — our goal is to keep the directory up-to-date and representative of our community’s live music scene.

Also, if we got anyone in the wrong category for this split, please let us know. We did our best, but weren’t 100% sure on everyone!
