Venue Spotlight: West Van Legion
Where Community Meets Live Music
Every now and then, something happens that reminds us why we started ShowHub in the first place – and the other night, the West Van Legion did just that. This was the very first venue we visited when ShowHub was new – just a small website with a big dream. From the start, they welcomed us with open arms and proudly put up our poster by the door, where it still hangs today. That support means the world to us.
When we wrote our first piece about them in our newsletter, we had maybe 30 subscribers. Even then, it made a difference: some readers went for the first time after reading that post, and a few have been regulars ever since.
Back in those early conversations, one challenge they shared was how difficult it was to find artists to book. If you didn’t already know who was out there, there wasn’t an easy way to connect. That’s why they were so excited about the ShowHub artist directory – and judging by the variety of acts now gracing their stage, we’re pretty sure they’ve been putting it to good use.
A lot has changed since then. Their music nights are quickly becoming a destination, and a recent fundraising auction sold out and raised an impressive $15,000. Artists are even reaching out to them now, a testament to how far things have come. It’s a perfect example of what happens when a venue’s hard work meets increased visibility – the results speak for themselves.
If you haven’t been to West Van Legion yet, it’s worth the trip. The room is one of the most welcoming we’ve encountered. Even as newcomers, we’ve never once felt like outsiders – something that can be rare in a space where many people already know each other. There’s a full bar, a lively dance floor, and an excellent patio when the weather’s right. The tiered seating means everyone has a clear view of the band – or the dancers, because that floor gets busy fast.
One of the things we respect most about this venue is how much they value artists. Their budget may be modest, but it still reflects their understanding and respect for the worth of professional talent – and that makes all the difference.
It’s also important to know what kind of music works best here. This isn’t a quiet singer-songwriter room. West Van Legion is a Saturday-night-sing-along-and-dance-your-feet-off kind of place. That’s what their audience shows up for – and is why there’s a place in this world for great cover acts.
Venues like this keep our local music scene vibrant. They build community, support artists, and remind us that live music doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. If you’re looking for a welcoming place to spend a Saturday night, West Van Legion should be on your list.
Find their upcoming shows here and don’t miss their very popular weekly Jam on Sunday evenings at 6:30 PM (holiday weekends excluded).
