Aaron Loewen
Vancouver/Okanagan-based, B.C.-born Aaron Loewen performs a vibrant, stylish take on retro jazz that feels lifted from 1930s Paris or a Roma caravan in the European countryside. In recent years he has become a familiar name across the province, playing both solo and alongside an impressive roster of musicians, including violinist Cam Boyce (Fanfare Music), clarinetist Joe Abbott (Petunia and the Vipers, Harpdog Brown), bassist Wynston Minckler (The Burying Ground and many others), drummers Paul Townsend (Petunia & The Vipers, Laura Crema) and Dylan Ranney (Andrew Judah, Josh + Bex), violinist Lache Cercel (Lache Cercel Ensemble), and more.
His live performances blend Django Reinhardt-inspired 1930s jazz guitar with vocal standards made famous by The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots, Fats Waller, and others, with the occasional Bill Withers or Bobby Hebb tune woven in. Aaron showcases the strengths of his collaborators, often sharing lead vocal duties for a dynamic and varied show.
