Amir Raad
Amir Raad is an artist, Iranian singer, and dedicated community contributor. He has volunteered his talents as both a dancer and singer for organizations such as the Edmonds Seniors Society, the Iranian Seniors Club, and at numerous Iranian and Afghan cultural celebrations. As an international performer, Amir has shared his music in British Columbia and abroad — often in a volunteer capacity.
In Iran, the public and private performance of music and dance by women has been prohibited for over 45 years. Artists who engage in these forms of expression risk serious consequences if they return. Despite this, a number of artists and activists in exile have worked tirelessly — and courageously — to preserve and elevate Iranian artistic traditions. The six individuals highlighted here are among those who have kept the arts of dance, music, and song not only alive, but thriving at the highest levels of proficiency.
