The Broken Islands
The Broken Islands are a Vancouver-based quintet that blends elements of post-rock, shoegaze, post-punk, trip-hop, and dark wave to craft a sound uniquely their own. With crashing guitars, moody synthesizers, and haunting, siren-like vocals, their music delivers an immersive, otherworldly sonic experience.
Their debut album, Wars, was met with critical acclaim upon its release in the fall of 2017, followed by Masquerade in February 2020. Their highly anticipated third album is set for release in 2025, with the first single, Tempest, debuting alongside performances at UK festivals The Great Escape and Portals. Recorded in both Vancouver, BC, and Cornwall, England, the new record pushes the band’s sound in a heavier, more intricate direction, incorporating complex rhythms, syncopation, and unconventional time signatures while retaining their signature blend of powerful guitars and layered vocals.
Since their debut, The Broken Islands have toured the UK three times, making their mark at major festivals including Liverpool Sound City, Khatsalano (Vancouver), NXNE (Toronto), The Great Escape, and Portals. A standout performance opening for CASPIAN in Vancouver further cemented their reputation within the genre.
As with their previous albums, the upcoming release has been produced and mixed by Dave ‘Rave’ Ogilvie, renowned for his work with industrial icons such as Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and Skinny Puppy. His expertise makes him the ideal collaborator to refine and amplify the many influences that define The Broken Islands’ evolving sound.
