Jay Knutson is a veteran of Canada’s folk and roots scene, best known as a founding member of Spirit of the West and a current member of the folk/rock band Early Spirit. He spent 20 years directing the North Shore Celtic Ensemble and has performed and recorded with artists such as Connie Kaldor, Hart Rouge, Daniel Lavoie, and Josée Lajoie.

Jay’s career spans over 50 album projects, including eight solo releases and contributions to five Juno Award-winning recordings. He’s also composed music for the CBC, the National Film Board, and Danish National TV, and continues to perform and write with a deep connection to both tradition and innovation.
