Nuvo Zydeco
Origins of Nuvo Zydeco: Bandleader Randy Schultz first experienced Zydeco music in 2004 while on vacation in New Orleans and it had a lasting and life-changing effect. His passion for the music is founded on mentoring by authentic Creole players including touring internationally with prominent zydeco bands. Assembling a talented ensemble of professional musicians, NUVO ZYDECO has created a unique blend of traditional Zydeco mixed with Canadian flavours. Our objective is to be ambassadors for the music, present it to as wide an audience as possible, and have fun while doing it!
What does it sound like? Nuvo Zydeco is composed of the five traditional instruments of a zydeco band: accordion, electric guitar, washboard, bass and drums. The drums and washboard form the percussive backbone of the music and with the bass guitar, drive the dance grooves. Accordion and guitar licks stoke the dance beat while alternating and sharing sizzling solos. With three singers in the band, Nuvo Zydeco harmonies and leads please.
