Raphael Geronimo
Raphael Geronimo is a musician and percussionist based in Vancouver, Canada. Born in the Philippines he learned to play congas, timbales and bongo from his father, Rene “Boying” Geronimo. He continued his practice by studying music in Cuba and New York City. Raphael continues to lead and direct the group Rumba Calzada that he took over from his father in 1995. The band has been nominated for a 2003 Juno Award, 2002 Canadian Independent Music Award, 2002 West Coast Music Award and 2008 Western Canadian Music Award.
