Colin Sankey
Colin is a Vancouver-based musician and composer with a deep-rooted passion for jazz, funk, and a wide range of global music styles. His early musical journey was shaped by late-night jam sessions, candlelit jazz clubs, and immersive experiences in genres such as afro-beat, salsa, and reggae. He played in church bands and studied Latin jazz formally at Vancouver Community College.
A formative influence was the band Tool, whose complex rhythms and spiritual themes opened his eyes to the emotional and philosophical depth of music. This awakening led him to explore funk and jazz fusion artists like Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten, whose technical mastery and expressive playing he saw as both instructional and spiritual.
With 13 years of musical experience and formal training behind him, Colin is now focused on creating original work that engages both the heart and mind, hoping to pass on the inspiration he found in his own musical mentors.
