Golden Archies
The Golden Archies are a seriously fun band!
With a combined experience of over 200 years in the entertainment industry in recording acts and top-rated cover bands, this is a band that has the know-how, experience and chops to deliver a professional-level show. Their set list covers a broad range of rock artists with some unusual fan favorites rarely performed, (like the Beatles Abbey Road Medley, for example), as well as many other rock hits and deep tracks from the 60s to the 00s! A lineup of musical veterans and good friends with adventurous spirits, great imaginations and great chops are what makes it all possible.
The Golden Archies Are
Bob Smart
Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals
An award-winning composer and producer, Bob has been active in the music industry since the late 1970s and became involved with the film, television and radio industries in the 1990s. A former partner in Wave Productions, Bob spends time as an organic farmer, but maintains an active role as a composer, producer, arranger and consultant. When not immersed in his musical endeavours, Bob enjoys astronomy, astrophotography, and creating visual art.
Craig Zarazun
Drums
Another award winner, Craig has been recognized for his audio production, engineering and mixing. Craig got his start in the music business with metal bands in the 80s and worked his way into the studio, becoming an in-demand producer and engineer. Craig is a partner in Wave Productions. When he finds spare time he spends it on his boat, at his cabin, or making noise with The Golden Archies.
Joe Alvaro
Bass
Joe’s first band in the 70s was Zingo, the top band on the circuit at the time. Admired and revered by his peers, he has flexed his musical muscles in a variety of top cover bands and original acts based out of Vancouver, including Strange Advance, M.T. Vessels and HEAD. A fishin’ musician long before the SCTV skit, Joe is an expert at fly-tying, and has a few secret fishing holes that always make the trips worthwhile.
Rick Collin
Vocals
Also known as “Art Cheese”, Rick is the youngest member of the band. He had a different musical trajectory than the rest of the guys, being involved in musical theatre in his youth. That was followed by a long stint in an original recording and touring act from the late 90’s into the early 2000’s (which was produced by Carlos Cavazo from Quiet Riot). Rick has performed in almost every major US city and Japan. He brings that wealth of performance experience, his powerful voice and great stage presence to the mix, along with a fun-loving attitude and great charisma. When free time presents itself, Rick plays hockey. He is also an outstanding cook. Rick has the most hair in the band.
Rod Knowlan
Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals
Rod has been a fixture on the Vancouver scene performing with a variety of cover bands over the past 4+ decades. Playing an integral role in original acts such as M.T. Vessels and HEAD, Rod also has composing credits for music used in film and television. The newest member of the band, Rod brings extensive live performance experience, dexterous playing, and strong harmony vocals to round out the Golden Archies’ unique and powerful sound. His time away from the Archies is spent playing part time in other bands (including the Jethro Tull tribute “Tullepathy”, with Joe). Like Bob, Rod is an astronomy enthusiast. Suffice it to say, Rod has the least hair in the band.
