Horse Opera
Horse Opera is a dynamic band that defies genre labels, blending roots rock, outlaw country, and Canadiana with elements of soul, blues, punk energy, and rockabilly attitude. Their music features strong hooks, distinctive vocals, and a twin-guitar attack, alongside covers of artists ranging from Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan to Lady Gaga.
Formed in 2011, the band has been a staple in the Vancouver music scene, performing at clubs and festivals with an energetic live show that keeps audiences dancing. Their debut album, Nothin’ To Lose, was released in 2017, followed by multiple singles and the 2020 EP Lucky 13, which produced three Top 15 hits on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown. In 2022, they earned a Fan’s Choice nomination at the BC Country Music Awards, where they also performed.
Horse Opera’s original songs tackle thought-provoking themes such as residential schools, environmentalism, and mental health while maintaining an infectious, danceable energy. Lead singer and songwriter Will George brings a diverse musical background, including classical training and a solo career featuring collaborations with members of Steve Earle’s and Ryan Adams’ bands. His 2022 release, Lonely, showcases rare tracks spanning three decades, highlighting his extensive songwriting history.
With their genre-defying sound and high-energy performances, Horse Opera continues to make an impact on the Canadian music scene.
