Born in Guantánamo, Cuba, Julio Ávila grew up in a family of accomplished musicians and began performing at age seven. Deeply influenced by the traditional changüí music of his hometown, he developed into a skilled bassist, singer, arranger, and composer.

Julio has toured internationally with La Sonora Universal and, since 2005, across Western Canada with El Grupo Cubano Brisas del Palmar. Now based in Vancouver, he leads the Julio Ávila Cuban Band, captivating audiences with vibrant performances of salsa, son, bachata, boleros, and cumbias.
