Locarno

Artist Website

Locarno is the Latin music project of JUNO Award winner Tom Landa, blending Mexican and Canadian musical traditions. Born in Mexico City and raised in Canada, Tom is best known for founding the folk-roots band The Paperboys. Locarno draws on Son Jarocho, Afro-Cuban, and other Latin American styles, reflecting Tom’s studies in Veracruz and his deep connection to Mexican folk music.

The band’s debut album, Una Más Y Ya Nos Vamos, received a WCMA nomination and praise for its vibrant mix of traditional and modern influences. Today, Locarno’s sound weaves together elements of cumbia, soukous, marimba, joropo, and forró — all delivered with dynamic live energy.

Band lineup:

• Tom Landa – jaranas, guitars
