Mivule is an 8-piece Afro Reggae band based out of Vancouver, BC, Canada. They have recently expanded their ensemble from a four-piece to bring a larger, more exciting sound to the stage. Mivule’s music is centred around roots reggae and Afrobeat, but the band is expanding their sound to include more genres such as jazz and funk..Their music is groove-based, designed to entertain and get crowds moving.

Brian Baroda is the group’s frontman. His South-Sudanese and Ugandan roots inform much of the band’s music. As a refugee, he has unique political views that appear in powerful messages in songs. The name Mivule comes from an East African teak tree, which was a gathering place for village folk when Brian was growing up in Uganda. Under this tree, people would come to seek justice and discuss issues. Mivule is a symbol of peace, harmony, and justice, a place where audiences can find hope and inspiration.
