Niamh O’Gorman
Originally from the small village of Killavullen in North Cork, Niamh moved to Vancouver just over a year ago. Growing up in a musical household where traditional Irish tunes and songs were a constant presence, it was only natural that she and her siblings developed a passion for music. Her father has performed country music gigs for as long as she can remember, and her brothers were part of a rebel band called Purple Shamrocks — sparking Niamh’s early love for Irish music.
Music has opened many doors for her, leading to opportunities to perform in venues across Ireland, Europe, and now Vancouver. She picked up guitar over the years from her brothers and soon began singing and accompanying herself. Whether it was a session at home or a sing-song in the local pub, Niamh was always in the heart of it.
Since relocating to Vancouver, she has been working as both a primary school teacher and a music teacher, and she plays in Irish pubs whenever she gets the chance. Her repertoire includes a blend of traditional Irish and contemporary songs — but she says nothing gets a crowd going quite like the Irish rebel tunes.
