Introducing My ShowHub – Your Live Music Concierge
We list a lot of live music.
On a normal week, ShowHub lists well over a hundred upcoming shows at small venues in Vancouver, the North Shore, Burnaby and beyond. On our busiest weeks, that number climbs over 200. This is great if you want to explore what’s happening around town, but for some, it’s not so great. One message we received said, “There are too many shows now – you list so much useless stuff that I can’t find what I want.”
Now, we beg to differ. We don’t consider any of the shows we list to be useless. In fact, venues where the artists feel like the music goes unnoticed are consistently among the most viewed on the site. But not everyone has the same tastes, and it can get overwhelming at times.
We have a fantastic filtering system, as well as two types of searches, but until now you couldn’t just say, “What’s going on that I want to see?”
So we built My ShowHub – and now you can.
After 18 months of brainstorming and planning, and over 200 hours of coding, interface design, messaging refinements, and figuring out all the ways you folks may come up with to break it, My ShowHub is officially here.
- My ShowHub lets you filter shows by artist, and also create your own mini ShowHub! Select which artists, venues, and individual shows to include, and get easy filtering along with a text listing of upcoming shows ordered by date and time.
- My ShowHub is part of ShowHub Plus – our new membership feature that includes premium enhancements above and beyond the free ShowHub experience.
How it Works
Now, ShowHub’s already pretty awesome, so what could possibly make it better?
Let’s take a look!
- If you have an active membership (or active trial), you will find toggles on all the individual Show, Artist, and Venue pages, which say “Add to My ShowHub.”
- When you’re browsing the ShowHub website and see an artist or venue you’d like to have in your personal listings, just click their “Add to My ShowHub” toggle.
- Then, when you visit My ShowHub, you’ll see all the upcoming shows from the artists and venues you follow.
- You no longer need to visit multiple pages just to find the information you want. It’s all in one spot, continually updated for you by the ShowHub team as we add new shows to the website.
- Unlike the regular ShowHub, you can see a listing of just the shows featuring your favourite artists, and filter to see each of their upcoming shows individually.
- NEW: You can now add individual shows to My ShowHub and then filter to see just those, in order to plan your week.
- Date filtering provides a list of dates for your shows, and you can just click to see who’s playing when.
- We also have a special filter that provides a text list. This looks similar to our Weekly Listing, but with your personal curated list of shows.
- You can add and remove items whenever you like, and your Following page provides a directory of your followees together in one place.
We put together a brief visual tour for you. No voice-over until we find someone qualified, sorry (I’m not).
Take a tour of the populated My ShowHub listings and filters, as well as the other account pages.
Straightforward, transparent membership pricing
ShowHub Plus memberships are available for:
- 1 month – $10
- 3 months – $28
- 1 year – $100
- You can choose a single-term membership or opt into automatic renewal.
- Recurring billing is disabled by default. That’s right! If you want your membership to renew automatically, you have to deliberately choose it.
- If you have recurring billing enabled, the button to cancel future payments is right on your account page. So is the link which opens your secure Stripe Portal so you can update your payment information. ShowHub does not handle or store credit card information.
- If you let your membership lapse, we won’t throw away your preferences. Come back later and the artists and venues you followed will still be there – unless you would like us to delete the account, in which case it will all go away. To do that, just contact us.
Supportive Memberships
There’s also a Supportive Membership option for people who would like to contribute more toward ShowHub as part of their Plus membership purchase. You receive the same benefits as the regular membership, but also help take some of the financial strain off us, thus earning our undying gratitude.
Running ShowHub is not inexpensive, and while we have received grant support (thank you, Creative BC!), only certain expenses are eligible for that funding. We’re covering almost everything else ourselves – and that doesn’t even touch on the thousands of hours involved since we started 21 months ago.
Why so much time? Because these shows can’t be gathered by automation. They can’t be scraped by bots or AI. Every single show on this site is manually gathered, organized, and input by a real person.
ShowHub is run by a core team of two, and we’re not paid to do this. Our grant funding allowed us to hire Luc part-time this summer. He was thankfully able to cover much of Jen’s work through those months when she couldn’t – so we were still mostly a team of two. Without him, there would have been no summer listings this year. But that funding is coming to an end, so we’re trying to make this work and keep him on board as our third team member moving forward.
In the timeless words of Honeybear, “There really ain’t no such thing as a free ride – somebody’s got to pay.”
Right now, we’re largely that somebody. So, as we put it on the membership page, if you would like to be an actual saint, you can choose your own rate.
Supportive Memberships start at:
- 1 month – $15
- 3 months – $40
- 1 year – $150
Try it free for 7 days
Because it’s much easier to understand My ShowHub by actually using it, everyone can try it free for seven days.
No credit card information or payment is required. Nothing automatically starts billing you when the trial ends. If you like it, you can choose a membership. If you don’t, nothing happens.
ShowHub will remain the free, ad-free live music resource we’ve always intended it to be. Plus gives people who want a personalized experience another way to use ShowHub, while helping us work towards making the platform sustainable.
Welcome to My ShowHub. Check it out now.
