Introducing ShowHub’s Daily Interactive Live Map
Since we started this project, we’ve planned to add an interactive mapping system to ShowHub. Thanks to the support of Creative BC, we’re pleased to announce the initial launch of this feature. Early feedback has been excellent, and we think it’s going to be a great tool for people who are out and about looking for live music.
Pulling directly from the ShowHub database, the map displays the locations of all shows in our listings for the day. Solid burgundy icons represent shows coming up later in the day, while white icons indicate shows that are currently running. You can also filter the map to see what’s live now or what’s happening later.
For usability, we have removed the footer section on the map page to allow scrolling and panning of the map without accidentally scrolling the page as well.
To support the “Live Now” feature, we’ve also added indicators to individual show pages so you can immediately see when a performance is currently underway.
The map is especially handy for finding the dozens of pop-up plaza and park shows happening all over town throughout the summer. Some take place in pretty obscure locations, so being able to see exactly where they are on a map is something we find really helpful.
Moving Forward
The map will continue to develop, with more features and refinements added over time. One of the things we’re looking at is integrating your location, similar to our Live Music Now Siri feature, but with the added ability to visually reference the venues closest to you. There’s also the potential to provide directions and other location-based features, but we’ll play that by ear.
As this is a fairly involved and dynamic system, we really appreciate user feedback while we continue to refine it. If something doesn’t feel intuitive or doesn’t work the way you expect, please reach out. Be sure to include the device you’re using and your screen size so we can replicate the issue and find a solution.
And even though we’ve checked the coordinates, if you see an icon that isn’t where it should be, please let us know so we can fix it. There are a lot of locations, and we are still human!
A reminder that we don’t necessarily list every show at every venue. This often depends on the information provided by the venue, whether the artist is already in our directory, and whether we have the capacity to create new profiles at the time.
